The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an English language based examination which is recognised as the equivalent of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), which is the academic qualification offered in the United Kingdom. It was developed by the University of Cambridge International Examinations. It is the most popular international curriculum in the world for students in the age group of 14 to 16 years.
Regarding the format of the IGCSE curriculum, there are over 70 subjects available, including 30 languages, and schools can offer them in any combination. The assessment of the students’ progress takes place at the end of the course and can include written assignments, oral submissions and practical examinations. Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades i.e., the range of A* to G, along with clear guidelines explaining the standard of achievement required to attain each grade. Cambridge IGCSE examination sessions occur twice a year, in June and November. The results for these examinations are issued in August and January.
